Feeling Like...Blech

There are parts of my job I truly hate.  The HR part of it can royally suck, mostly because of my lack of HR experience and expertise, but that's what happens when you work for a small company.  The person running the office wears many, many hats, and often times is flying the seat of their pants with little or no experience.  I spend a lot of time researching or picking the PRM's HR brain and sometimes I wish I had all of the answers at my fingertips or right off the top of my head.

On the other hand, HR is not my specialty, nor do I want it to be.  I'm more interested in the numbers part of my job - the financials, how they work and how we can make them work for us.  I'm a number nerd, what can I say?

So the part about HR that I hate the most is terminations.  Can't say I know anyone who enjoys them, though.  I hate writing the term letters.  They are hard to write because I'm trying to word things in an official way, but put them as delicately as possible.

It takes me hours to write them, although I'm basically relying on a basic template.  I have a tendency to find excuse to place my attention elsewhere...Facebook, making coffee, washing dishes, scanning the radio for a good song, reading a new cookbook, reading blogs, you name it.

Although the little activites are fun, I find it very counter productive to write these letters.  I end up wasting a good 3-4 hours at the end of the entire exercise and the next thing you know, the day is over.

It sucks!
